Apple TV can support a gaming refresh rate of 120 Hz at 4K

The next Apple TV model can support a refresh rate of 120 Hz, presumably 4K, the report said. 9 to 5Mac. References to “120Hz” and “supports 120Hz” appear in the latest beta version of tvOS 14.5, suggesting that Apple is at least testing this mode.

A higher refresh rate will allow you to play media more smoothly and, more importantly, make Apple TV better for gaming. The current Apple TV 4K only supports 4K with a frequency of up to 60 Hz, the maximum allowed by the HDMI 2.0 port. If the next model really supported 4K 120Hz, it would have to use the HDMI 2.1 standard, which allows you to double the data rate. This will also require a compatible 4K 120 Hz TV, but can now be purchased from Samsung, LG, Vizio and other brands.

Poznyak had rumors that the next-generation Apple TV will receive an upscale A14X processor with console performance. In addition, Apple has reportedly recently invested more money in its Arcade service and recently expanded its catalog to 30 games. Given all this, it would make sense to use a 4K 120Hz refresh rate to secure the future of the box and provide a better gaming experience. The next Apple TV is reportedly scheduled for release in 2021 Bloomberg report from late last year.
