Australian cricketer Alex Hepburn in prison for five years for rape

Australian cricketer who raped a woman he found "asleep" in the bedroom of his team-mate has been jailed for five years, the English court.

His lawyer Michel Criminal Healy said her client had repented.

In what the judge described as "bold" statement shock victim, a woman attacked Hepburn described her ordeal as "evil" and "heinous crime."

Tindal judge praised her for the fact that the evidence in two trials, adding: "I hope that now it can finally be able to look at her future, which will, I believe, clearly."

Jury Hepburn was found guilty of rape when oral retrial earlier this month, but cleared him from further count of rape, belonging to one and the same victim.

The four-day trial at Worcester Crown Court heard she mistakenly thought she was having sex with Hepburn then county teammate Joe Clark after meeting him in a nightclub.

She told the jury she had consensual sex with England Lions batsman Clarke, who left his bedroom in the early hours to be sick in the bathroom, where he passed out.
