that Volkswagen Tarok, a compact car prototype, debuted this week on the Sao Paolo Auto Show in Brazil. This shows the model of the future four-wheel drive series intended for production.
These four new doors, which are intended for family-oriented, will be rivals of Fiat Toro (a van sold in Mexico under the name Ram 700). This Fiat is the best-selling van in Brazil and, at the end of October, was ranked 13th in the sales list, all types of vehicles were combined.
The series model that will come out of Tarok will have "very little change," convinced the manufacturer. In the Brazilian range, these future vans will occupy a central position, between large Amarok and small Saveiro.
The Tarok is built on a platform MQB from Volkswagen. 5.0 meters long, it's slightly shorter than the Honda Ridgeline or Volkswagen Amarok, both 5.3 meters tall. This does not prevent it from offering a load capacity of nearly one ton.
In addition, the box has a flexible loading surface of up to 2.8 meters to 2.5 meters for Amarok (2.1 meters for the Ridgeline). To have a long surface, simply fold the hinged panel under the cockpit bezel and open the back door. The operation is carried out in an instant while sacrificing the rear seat.
It's a kind of update for the Midgate concept, a heavy panel that is pulled from the rear of the Chevrolet Avalanche cabin and Cadillac Escalade. EXT to extend the loading surface of their crates; a concept that has been updated by Volkswagen by making it look lighter and easier to use.
The Tarok is also distinguished by the "Targa" style which is raised by a vertical section with a metal layer on the back of the pavilion, but also by an impressive light strip on DEL three dimensions which are the tail light and ornamental elements for the hatchback.
The inside of this concept vehicle shows a new way that can be adopted by Volkswagen in the niche of the van, with its essentially digital design.
Under the hood there are 4 cylinders IST 1.4 liters which produces 150 horses. Powered by pure ethanol (E100) or a mixture of gasoline and ethanol (E22), this engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission that transmits engine power to all four wheels through 4Motion full-time all-wheel drive.
The serial version that will follow Tarok on the Brazilian market will have a 4-cylinder TDI The 2.0-liter direct injection turbodiesel produces 150 horsepower as well.
Although it is intended for the Brazilian market, the manufacturer acknowledges that this truck offers "the potential to increase the range of Volkswagen products in other markets around the world", but does not determine which one.
