The Statistical Office of the Czech Republic always publishes a rating of the popularity of children’s names on the occasion of the European Statistics Day, which falls on October 20. However, at the end of October this year, no tables appeared on the Office’s website.
And even now, a month after Honzik’s parents, Elishka and Tamashak traditionally learn that their children’s names are still among the most popular, the rating is still unavailable. Therefore, the editors of TN.cz contacted CZSO to find out if we will see this year at all.
CZSO spokesman Ian Cislar ruled out that statistics will still be able to top up the rankings this year. He said there was a lot of work in front of the office, partly due to the coronavirus epidemic, and so he was unable to pay close attention to the names of the children. “Don’t count on it in the coming days. The rating may not be ready until January,” Cieslar said.
However, it also brings positive news. In the future, these statistics may be much better. So far, the CZSO only monitored the January data and compiled a ranking of them. However, in the coming years it may work with another system, giving it more data.
And since this year the statistics of names will not be, let’s remember at least the most popular names of babies in previous years.
Last year, Elishka won the girls’ team, and Jakub was named after the boys. On the next levels of the stairs it looked like this.
2. Anna and Ian
3. Adele and Tomasz
4. Teresa and Matthias
5. Sophie Adam
6. Victoria and Philip
7. Emma / Carolina and Wojciech
8. Emma / Carolina and Lukash
9. Natalie and Martin
10. Amalie and Matthew
In 2018, the names Jakub and Elishka dominated again. Other positions have also not changed much.

7. Adele and Matthew
8. Victoria and Philip
9. Natalie and Ondrej
10. Christina and Dominic
In 2017, Elishka was also in the lead, but Ian won on behalf of the boy. Other positions basically moved the same names you saw in the previous ranking, only in a slightly different order.
Thus, parental preferences are obviously changing very slowly, and it can be assumed that even in 2020, Adam, Tamasha, Adelka, Anichka, Viktorka and Yakub were overcrowded only in maternity hospitals. We will see what 2021 will bring.
