broken heart syndrome: cancer through love – warn researchers

Broken heart – it's not just a phrase. Medicine has long been studied, that love or other emotional distress can lead to heart problems. Swiss researchers have now found evidence that there is also a link to cancer.

According to a recent study by the University Hospital Zurich (USZ), every sixth person suffering broken heart syndrome, also has cancer. Researchers around the cardiologist Christian Templin see the connection.

Breast cancer is especially common

The most common cancer, which was discovered – is breast cancer, followed by tumors in the gastrointestinal tract, the respiratory tract, the internal reproductive processes, and on the skin or in other areas such as health portal. Injured people are also less likely than other cancer survivors to survive five years after the onset of the disease.

broken heart syndrome causes shortness of breath and chest pain

The syndrome of the heart, also known as Takotsubo syndrome, pulmonary dysfunction observed in heart muscle. This is caused by both emotional and physical stress. The victims experience pain in the chest and shortness of breath, so the symptoms are similar to a heart attack. The disease is particularly prevalent in postmenopausal women. It may take several weeks or months.

Patients with cancer, on average older than the other patients, and they reported more physical than emotional triggers for the syndrome of a broken heart, reported as patients without cancer. Physical triggers include, for example, medical treatments or physical trauma.

Experts recommend that patients with disorders of the heart were also tested for cancer.
