The establishment of the Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) said that people are still exposed to asbestos, 20 years after it was outlawed in Britain.
More than 130 companies or individuals were ordered to cease working during the last year due to improper asbestos, said the report IOSH.
Asbestos is present, at least 500,000 buildings built before 1999, the report said.
IOSH Managing Director Bev Messinger, said: "It is unacceptable that 20 years on asbestos banned in the UK, the organization is still potentially endangers the lives of employees, members of their seven & # 39; ads, and other members of the public.
"Thousands die in the UK each year from cancers like mesothelioma, while many others are diagnosed with it.
"All this can be prevented with good occupational health and safety. It is time for organizations to wake up and realize how dangerous asbestos. There's no excuse. "
Dr. Nick Hopkinson, medical director of the British Lung Foundation, said: "Breathing in asbestos dust can cause mesothelioma. Mesothelioma takes a long time to develop, and people will often get symptoms 30 to 40 years after exposure to asbestos.
"Currently, only methods of treatment aimed at slowing disease progression and improve quality of life.
