Line supporters of duty finally gets long-awaited fifth season of the show as it starts on BBC One on Sunday night.

The new season sees the cast regulars Compston, Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar to return to AC-12, with cast newcomer Stephen Graham joining the "Balaclava Man» John Corbett – which can be the scariest villain show yet.

Two years have passed since the last series, the mind – so you'd be forgiven for having forgotten what happened in the fourth season, and how it all wrapped up for the last time.

Ahead of the beginning of a series of five, here is a brief reminder …

What happened in the line of duty of the fourth season?

Season four focused on the investigation of balaclava wearing serial killer – from DCI Roz Huntley (Thandie Newton) becomes a suspect after her colleague, forensics officer Tim Ifield (Jason Watkins) accused it of suppressing the evidence that led to an innocent person, Michael farmer (Reid Scott) conviction.

AC-12 was investigated further with Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) are located under the cover of her team – but complications have provided when Ifield disappeared and later revealed Huntley was killed after being in front of him for what he did.

She was scratched into their hands during the fight, which led to his death, and he went to great lengths to hide the evidence, but was left with wounds that have become worse and led to her arm being amputated due to MRSA.

However Huntley tried to continue to cover its crimes, even framing her husband Nick Huntley (Ingleby), before it was finally exposed as a fault.

She was eventually jailed for 10 years after being admitted to the murder.

Meanwhile, the mystery of the person Balaclava man continued, with Steve Arnott (Compston) falling foul of one of them, in a fight that resulted in his throwing the ladder – leaving him in a wheelchair.

Despite the fact that no one has been identified as the culprit, this theme looks set to continue in a series of five gently cast newcomer Graham John Corbett as a criminal.
